IP pools

An IP pool is a set of addresses Farava can give to subscribers. With pools you manage subscriber addresses from Farava itself, see how full each pool is, and give specific subscribers a fixed address.

Default: the router hands out addresses

On a fresh installation Farava does not hand out addresses; subscribers get them from the router’s own local pool. Handing out addresses from Farava’s pools is turned on by the Farava team once your pools are ready. Complete all the steps below first, then arrange it with us — see Observe and enforce mode.

In the panel this is under Network → IPAM.

Create a pool

1. Go to Network → IPAM and create a new pool.
2. Enter the Pool code (lowercase letters, numbers, _ or -, for example residential-1; it cannot be changed later) and a Name. Usually leave the advanced timings as they are.
3. Select Create disabled pool. A new pool always starts disabled.

Prepare and activate it

On the pool’s page:

1. Add an address range: Start IPv4 and End IPv4, for example 10.20.0.10 to 10.20.3.250. Ranges must not overlap other ranges.
2. Under NAS bindings, select the routers that hand out addresses from this pool and select Save NAS bindings. Only enabled routers can be chosen.
3. Select Activate pool. Activation needs at least one range and one bound router.

Give the pool to subscribers

There are two ways:

• Through an access profile (for most subscribers): create an access profile with a default pool and apply it to services.

• For one specific service: on the service’s Addressing tab, under Service addressing policy, choose the mode:

  • Dynamic pool — a free address from the pool each time;
  • Static IPv4 — always the same address. It must be inside the pool and free.

  Then select Save addressing policy. A static address always wins over the profile’s pool.

While a subscriber is online, their addressing cannot be changed. Disconnect the session or wait for it to end.

See how full it is

The Pool utilization view shows how many addresses are total, available, active, offered, held, and fixed. The IP utilization report in Reports shows every pool side by side.

Leases show the history of each address. An address that is stuck (held or expired) can be freed by hand with Release.

Disable and archive

• Disable pool — no new addresses are given from this pool until it is activated again.
• Archive pool — permanent, and only possible when no service depends on it and it has no current leases.
